Caring for your car in the hot Summer months

Car wear and tear is inevitable, but with temperatures hitting record highs this Summer, it's important to keep your vehicle in tip-top shape to prevent major mishaps. Here are some of our tips to keep your vehicle running correctly in the triple digits:

Cooling System:
The biggest cause of breakdowns in the Summer is overheating. The cooling system should be completely flushed and refilled about every 24 months, and the level, condition, and concentration of the coolant should be checked periodically. It is smart to even check the hoses for cracks, leaks, and their overall condition.

Air filters:
In these extreme temperatures, we all want our air conditioning to work at its maximum capacity. Not only do air filters help keep your inside cabin clean, they help maintain the efficiency of the entire air conditioning system. GM recommends replacing your in-cabin micro-filter every 12 months or 15,000 miles.

Other essential liquids:
It is important to keep the oil, brake, power-steering and windshield-washer fluids updated. These liquids never stop being used and consumed.

Brakes:
It's not ideal for your brakes to go out and have to pull over to the side of the road in 115 degree weather. Do a self check with the following questions: Are they lacking in bite? Feeling a bit spongy? Are they making noises? If so, new pads and a system bleed might be required.
